Winners Announced! CYPC's Research Achievements Recognized in the 2024 Hubei Provincial Science and Technology Progress Awards

Recently, at the 2025 Hubei Provincial Science and Technology Innovation Conference, Hubei Provincial People's Government announced the list of recipients for the 2024 Hubei Provincial Science and Technology Awards. Two research achievements led by CYPC were honored, namely, Key Technologies for Optimal Regulation of Coordinated Power Generation of Giant Hydropower Station-Unit Groups in the Upper Reaches of the Yangtze River, which won the second prize of the 2024 Hubei Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award, and Research on and Application of Key Technologies for Intelligent O&M Robots in Hydropower Projects under Complex Conditions of the Three Gorges Project, which received the third prize.

The research achievement titled Key Technologies for Optimal Regulation of Coordinated Power Generation of Giant Hydropower Station-Unit Groups in the Upper Reaches of the Yangtze River addresses technical challenges in managing the operation of giant hydropower station groups in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. Centered around "monitoring-forecasting-warning, unified control, optimal scheduling through multi-dimensional collaboration, and intelligent decision-making and application," the study innovatively presented a set of technologies for intelligent control integration, breaking through the technological bottleneck of optimal scheduling through multi-dimensional collaboration and risk assessment decision-making for giant hydropower station groups. The achievement has been successfully applied in institutions such as Three Gorges Cascade Dispatch & Communication Center, Power Regulation Centers of Central China Branch of State Grid and East China Branch of State Grid, and Qingjiang Cascade Dispatch & Communication Center, enabling the integration of intelligent decision support in hydropower scheduling and operation.

The research achievement titled Research on and Application of Key Technologies for Intelligent O&M Robots in Hydropower Projects under Complex Conditions of the Three Gorges Project systematically outlines the development technologies of four types of robots for intelligently inspecting and repairing critical equipment and facilities in hydropower stations. Among them, the robots for hydro-turbine penstock inspection and repair, for dam flow channel concrete inspection, and for spillway tunnel inspection are industry-first innovations. The robot for hydro-turbine penstock inspection and repair has successfully tackled the challenge of inspecting and repairing the inner walls of penstocks in 700 MW hydro-turbine units. Meanwhile, the robots for concrete inspection robot and for spillway tunnel inspection have, for the first time, enabled digitalized inspection, condition diagnostics, and intelligent O&M of dams and spillway structures. These technologies have already been applied at TGHPP and hold great potential for adoption in similar large-scale hydropower stations.

These award-winning achievements enhance the scheduling efficiency of hydropower station unit groups and promote intelligent operation and maintenance technologies, significantly improving the operation safety and stability of large-scale hydropower projects. CYPC will continue to strengthen its research efforts, enhance its technological innovation capabilities, and further solidify China Three Gorges Corporation's competitiveness and influence in the field of scientific and technological innovation. By doing so, it aims to contribute to Hubei Province's goal of becoming a national hub for technological innovation and to drive the intelligent transformation of the hydropower industry.
